Visitors traveling by train from the USA come into Montreal via Amtrak, then transfer to VIA Rail Canada trains for Québec City.

Getting Around the Québec City Area

Now that you’re in Québec City, you have a number of ways to get out and experience the many attractions in town and in the surrounding area. Take your pick!

In Town

Public Transit (local buses)

Réseau de transport de la capitale (RTC)

The RTC serves Québec City, Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, Wendake, and Ancienne-Lorette. The Portneuf, Jacques-Cartier, Côte-de-Beaupré, and Île d’Orléans areas are not part of RTC territory.

RTC Desjardins Shuttle

This shuttle provides practical transportation to downtown activities such as the Image Mill and Les Chemins invisibles™. It runs mainly along Promenade Samuel-De Champlain to link Sainte-Foy and the Beauport terminal. Note that your ticket allows you to get on and off at a number of places along the route.

RTC Écolobus

The Écolobus is a free, eco-friendly, ultra-quiet electric bus. Its 20-minute route takes it through the Upper Town and the Old Port area and connects to the ferry terminal. It is wheelchair accessible.

Ferry

The ferry links Québec City and Lévis 7 days a week, 365 days a year. It sails on the hour and half hour during the day and on the hour at night.

Québec City area taxis can be identified by the sign on their roofs. There are several companies.

Cars

Car rentals can be a practical way to visit areas less than an hour from downtown, such as Île d’Orléans and the Côte-de-Beaupré, Jacques-Cartier, and Portneuf regions.

Note that motorcycles are not allowed inside the walls of the Old City unless you have a reservation at a hotel inside the walls.
