When winter gets here, the Québec region becomes a huge playground full of activities that make a winter vacation unforgettable! Here you can hit the slopes just minutes away, skate in the heart of Old Québec, revel in the storybook charm of historic Place Royale, marvel at majestic Montmorency Falls, and so much more. Québec City also offers a bustling nightlife, countless boutiques for you to explore, and a wealth of gourmet restaurants, cosy bistros, and charming cafés. But if there's a winter to remember, it's surely this one, one that will mark the beginning of the 400th anniversary celebrations of Québec City. Festivities marking Québec City’s 400th anniversary will last throughout the year in 2008. And the big kick-off will take place on December 31, 2007, in a dazzling and festive family event right in the heart of the Old City. Glorious fireworks,
visual effects, and music will be part of it all—what about you? But there's
more to this: visit our
special section and discover everything that is offered to you:
the Snowboard World Cup, the Urbanopolis exhibition, the Québec City Snow
Pentathlon, and the 2008 IIHF World
Championship Hockey Tournament to name a few.On January 26th, 2008, Québec City will be hosting the Red Bull Crashed Ice for a third consecutive year. This spectacular combination of downhill skiing, hockey and boarder cross will once again shake Québec City's fortifications as competitors race down a 536 meter long icy track dropping a total of 56 meters. Racers must tie their skates on tight in order to make sharp calculated turns at 50 km/h, take on jumps and fly over gigantic sections of steps while beginning their descent outside Fairmont’s le Château Frontenac all the way down Côte de la Montagne and across the finish line in Place Royale. As 75,000 spectators witnessed last year, this is a must-see event! Over and above all the festivities, Québec City also presents you with a wide variety of winter activites. From Old Québec, you can see some of the most sought after ski slopes in all of North America. No more than 30 minutes away from the city centre, three resorts greet downhill skiing and snowboarding lovers: Mont-Sainte-Anne, Stoneham and Le Relais. Le Massif, a mere 45 minutes from Québec City, offers breathtaking panoramas. Cross-country skiing is also a winner since the region has over 2,000 kilometers of trails, for all levels of skiers. Why not experiment snowmobiling? You’ll discover the great outdoors and some sceneries you’d never thought accessible. The Québec City region has 1512 km of groomed trails within the Trans-Québec network. And what about ice climbing, dogsledding or snow rafting? Where else in the world could you try so many different activities! Finally, with the unique Ice hotel in Canada and the famous Québec City Winter Carnival, it’s no wonder that the Québec region is known as the snow capital and the ideal Canadian winter destination for the family.
