The “Champs Élysées” of Québec City

Day or night, happiness is contagious on Grande-Allée. A popular spot for residents and vacationers, its sunny terraces and architectural beauty attract big crowds. Lounging around the area is a real treat! And once the sun sets, its excellent restaurants and discotheques make it the perfect place to start…. or end the evening!

Stop by for a visit! You will see that Grande Allée has an air of vacation about it all year long. This festive ambiance is what will first draw you in. Noon or midnight, its large and lively sidewalks are teeming with people who have come to party with their friends or simply take a stroll with their family. Grande Allée is a large gathering of residents and tourists and, without a doubt, the most popular artery in the city!

The lovely terraces and appetizing menus certainly explain, in part, the success of this near-mythical street. There are many excellent restaurants that invite vacationers to partake in the pleasures of good food. At lunchtime, business people and politicians will also find high-end restaurants close to the Parliament. There are eateries to suit all budgets and tastes: the fine cuisine of Louis-Hébert, Rivoli’s European fare or the traditional but still original cookery of Cosmos Café, whose look is at par with the restaurants of the biggest cities on the planet. Speaking of decor, you must eat at Voodoo Grill where African art blends with drum beats, offering you a glimpse into this unknown continent. Ginko Restaurant japonais has a varied sushi bar and the only Teppan-Yaki tables in Québec City: watch the chef cook your food right before your eyes… it’s a real show! You have a wealth of choices! And if there is someone you wish to impress, pull out all the stops and head to L’Astral, the only revolving restaurant in Québec City’s skyline!

With your hunger satisfied, you will surely want to stay in the area to burn off your excess energy. Grande Allée is also well-known for its exciting nightlife. Dance floors with DJs, romantic terraces, bars where traditional and popular songs are played… all of these will spice up your vacation! Of course, barhopping would not be complete without stopping by the renowned Maurice Salon-Bar, located in a one-hundred-year-old building, to enjoy theme evenings and a highly-charged atmosphere! Perfect for those happy hours that go on till late at night.

This keen interest in Grande Allée is not new. During your stroll, you can admire the 19th-century Victorian architecture that lends a certain style to the location. Back then, Grande Allée was a sought-after residential area by the upper class. It was named the “Champs Élysées of Québec City”. Traces of this era are still very visible today.

In fact, a stroll along Grande Allée is so pleasant that you risk walking all the way to Cartier street, where you will find more restaurants, boutiques and cafés. Along the way, you will see large hotels, inns and lovely B&Bs. If you like walking, you will quickly discover that there is much to see near Grande Allée! Such as the Battlefields Park, also known as the Plains of Abraham, one of the largest and most prestigious city parks in the world where leisure, culture and history meet. Grande Allée is a tourist hub and the main road to many major tourist attractions in Québec City: Old Québec, Laurier Québec, Place de la Cité and Place Ste-Foy shopping centres as well as the historic Québec Bridge.

Grande Allée is the ideal place to soak up a unique and friendly atmosphere while enjoying all of life’s pleasures. Come live the good life on our “Champs Élysées”!
