Offset Your Trip’s Carbon Footprint

Destination Québec cité and Carbone Boréal have a simple and easy tool to help you calculate and offset the carbon footprint related to your trip to Québec City. Your carbon offset will be used to plant trees in the boreal forest, which plays an important role in the fight against climate change.

How it works

Carbone boréal

In partnership with Carbone Boréal

Carbone Boréal is a research facility at Université du Québec à Chicoutimi. It is also a project to offset greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by planting trees. When you offset the CO2 emissions from your trip to Québec City, trees will be planted and used to capture the CO2 equivalent of the calculated emissions, which can make your trip carbon neutral.

Carbone boréal's planting sites are on bare patches of the boreal forest north of Lac-Saint-Jean. These swaths of public land are designated as experimental forest and are therefore protected. The species planted are forest species provided by Québec’s Ministère des Forêts, de la Faune et des Parcs. The plantations of the Agricultural project aim to reforest portions of agricultural wasteland impossible to cultivate and includes a method of compensation to farmers of $1 per tree. Offsets are provided for a donation of $5 per tree or $35 per tonne of CO2.

The emission factors are estimated and provided to Destination Québec cité by Carbone boréal.
