The Greater Québec City area is bursting with local food. As a place where dedicated farmers and city‑dwellers in search of fresh local food meet, public markets change and come alive with the seasons and are an absolute must for any food‑lover. Stroll through the sunbathed halls of Grand Marché or tap into the local vibe at the seasonal neighbourhood markets in and around the city.

Québec City's Grand Marché

Le Grand Marché de Québec (public market) is an essential destination for local flavours. Here you’ll find everything under one roof: fine chocolate makers, a brew pub, coffee roasters, fishmongers, butchers, and more. This foodie village features themed sections and an outdoor restaurant during summer time.  In the summer and fall, extra stands open outside to make room for the abundance of local produce being harvested daily out in the fields. And from late November to the end of December it’s the Christmas Market, where you’ll find tons of local gift ideas in an old‑fashioned and festive atmosphere. Québec City’s Grand Marché is popular with families and has a kids’ zone furnished especially for youngsters. There are also workshops throughout the year for people interested in food, gardening, and farming.

The market is located near the Videotron Centre and is easy to get to using public transit. There is also free parking on site.

Sainte-Foy Farmer’s Market

Every year from mid-May to early November, local artisans and farmers set up shop at the Sainte-Foy farmer’s market just off Avenue Roland-Beaudin, which is very convenient if your hotel is in the Sainte-Foy area. A woodandglass pavilion was recently built to house the market, so you can shop without worrying about the weather.

Limoilou is a family neighbourhood in Lower Town known for its wrought‑iron spiral staircases and overall architectural appeal. In summer, a section of the main street is closed to traffic for the farmer’s market. Located between 8e and 9e Rue on 3e Avenue, it’s the place to pick up fresh local produce and other tasty treats, with some forty stands run by local farmers and artisans. While you’re in the neighbourhood, swing by Stadaconé distillery to sample their fine Québec gins and make it a delicious day!
Mid-July to mid-September, Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Saint-Sauveur Farmer’s Market

Located on Rue Saint‑Vallier Ouest, the Saint‑Sauveur market is a one‑of‑a‑kind affair, with live music and a friendly, welcoming vibe. Saint‑Sauveur has really come into its own in recent years and the neighbourhood has a very authentic feel.
Mi-July to mid-September, Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Saint-Jean-Baptiste Farmer's Market (Le P'tit marché SJB)

Le P'tit marché SJB

Every Saturday in the summer, the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church square hosts Le P'tit marché SJB where you can find all the best fruits, vegetables, coffee, pastries and artisan creations. A meeting place for the population and visitors, as was the church square in the past.
Mid-June to mid-October, Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Seasonal Farmers' Markets Outside the City

Several municipalities around Québec City offer community-based markets where the locals come into direct contact with the small farmers, gardeners, homesteaders and artisans. Take advantage of your getaway in the surrounding area to stop at one of these public markets.

Fresh Produce Stands

There are also numerous farms in the region with stands where you can load up on fresh, local food. You’ll find them along the region’s country roads, including Route de la Nouvelle‑France, Chemin du Roy, or Route 368, which runs around Île d’Orléans.
