Information about the event
Empowered by the resounding success of his album Un serpent sous les fleurs that earned him a Félix Award for Songwriter of the Year at the 2009 Gala de L'ADISQ, Yann Perreau is now presenting a unique project. Available since October 2012 on the Bonsound label, À genoux dans le désir is solely based on the opus of poet Claude Péloquin. Each song features prose-form poetry that has never been read ? or heard ? before.
A wordsmith who never hesitates to depart from the beaten path, Yann Perreau offers fans a masterpiece of writing and editing. His album is a colourful and unique rendering that will touch a vast audience and meander across several generations. “Because Péloquin writes without rhymes and free of any rythmic structure, I needed to make the material groove, to infuse it with a musicality without adulterating its essence,” explains Perreau. “My aim was to draw out the finest of his verve, paste the pieces together and create songs that are each a tiny pearl, that bewitch but do not get too burdened with meaning. This album embodies a certain freedom. It’s eclectic ? a bit like the soundtrack of a movie that doesn’t exist.”
Perreau’s sensitivity enables him to understand the deep crazy love contained in Claude Péloquin’s prose. He offers a personal tribute to this premier figure among Québécois poets. Translating words into music, À genoux dans le désir confirms the uniqueness of Yann Perreau’s endless talent.
