Born of the ashes of the once renowned One Night Band, band THE BEATDOWN brings good old solid reggae back to the forefront. Since 2009, these Montreal underground show veterans have been pushing that good old Jamaican sound they love so much to new heights, slipping a few soul, rock and punk riffs into their tunes and delivering it with a bold flourish.
Despite its short history, THE BEATDOWN boasts a number of true and tanglible accomplishments. The band has performed in over ten countries (Canada, Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, the United-States, etc.), shared the stage with internationally acclaimed bands like The Slackers, the Planet Smashers, U-Roy, Subb, Vernon Maytone (the Maytones), Chris Murray and the Aggrolites, and have appeared at the Montreal International Reggae Festival, Gaspé’s Festival du Bout du Monde, the Montreal Ska Fest and the Victoria Ska Fest, to mention but a few.
With an early reggae style that blends the traditional and the modern, and electric guitars that squeal at precisely the right moment (Jonathan Bélec, Skarlatine), THE BEATDOWN has moved forward quickly. Showing no signs of strain, the band spent the most part of 2010 on the road, and fast established itself as reggae’s new rising star.
One thing is certain: You’ve only just begun hearing about THE BEATDOWN. At the Massif Open, they’re sure to knock your socks off.
