Information about the event
Very early on, Alex Nevsky discovered an uncontrolable penchant for songwriting and melody. Inspired by flamboyant hip hop artists IAM and Oxmo Puccino, Alex turns himself inside out to compose his lyrics. He registers for CEGEP and is soon accepted at Granby’s École Nationale de la Chanson. During the intensive ten-month program, he listens to tons of records, hones his vocal chords and learns to play both guitar and piano. His style naturally drifts towards songwiting ? towards pop and rock.
New diploma in hand, he earns a much sought after research and working scholarship from le Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec that allows him to devote himself body and soul to his music. During this period of creativity, Alex becomes friends with Yann Perreau who then mentors Alex on his journey by guaranteeing the production of his debut album. Yann also invites him to open on his tour, including his homecoming show at la Tulipe, in Montreal.
Nevsky also peddles his art at countless festivals and contests. He makes the semi-finals at the Granby Song Festival in 2009, and the finals at les Francouvertes in February 2010. He wins l’Office Québec-Wallonie’s youth award, and at Musique Plus’ Vue sur la relève festival, in May 2010, he’s the Listeners Pick. Topping that nicely, in June Radio-Canada announced that he ranked among the 2010 Révélations de l’année. His debut album is released at the end of the summer, on the Audiogram label. His first single entitled Notre Coeur is already playing on the radio.
