Parc linéaire de la Rivière-Saint-Charles

Gardens and Nature Walk

Explore a beautiful 32-km (19.2-mile) walking trail that runs along the entire length of the St. Charles River, stretching from St. Charles Lake to the Old Port. Many species of birds and plants can be seen along this trail, which leads to a number of parks and historical sites. It may be used year-round by pedestrians, while inline skaters and cyclists can travel along the 4-km (2.5-mile) paved segment from early May to late October. This same portion of the trail is groomed for walking and cross-country skiing in the winter. It was at the mouth of the river where Jacques Cartier spent the first winter on Canadian soil in 1535–36, and it was also there that the Aboriginal village of Stadaconé once stood. Those strolling along the river will encounter the Cartier-Brébeuf National Historic Site of Canada, as well as picturesque waterfalls and a canyon near the Wendake reservation.
