Visit the Economuseums! What, exactly, is an ''ECONOMUSEUM™''? The term ''economuseum'' was coined as the English-language equivalent of ''économusée''. Both are registered trademarks of the International ECONOMUSEUM ® Network Society, used to describe small-scale production of goods in a workshop environment focusing on the preservation and perpetuation of traditional skills and craftsmanship. Shop owners provide the visiting public with information on techniques, skills, and production processes. In addition to products for sale, all ''économusée'' establishments have developped educational information material: bygone era product exhibits, present-day production samples, documentation and archive material. The economuseum network is a precious means of coming into contact with craftsmen in their own shops, where they take pride in sharing information on traditional craftsmanship skills. A splendid collection of porcelain dolls await you at Dames de soie (Doll Economuseum), home to the Duguay line of hand-crafted, collectible porcelain dolls. In addition to the generous selection of dolls and paraphernalia for sale, the interpretation centre provides the full story on how the dolls and Dames de Soie came to be. You can have your favorite doll or stuffed toy restored here, and even sign up for a workshop on how to assemble your own porcelain doll. Find out all about the fascinating relationship between humans and bees at the Musée de l'abeille (Honey Economuseum)! The exhibition shows how people have been keeping bees and gathering honey from early times. Learn how beekeeping techniques evolved through the ages. See if you can spot the queen bee in glass-enclosed hives. Set out on a fascinating "Bee Safari" with an experienced beekeeper. Tour concludes with the sampling of a mead drink, sweets and pastries, on sale at the boutique. Aliksir (Herbalist Economuseum) features essential oil extraction by means of a traditional water-vapour-induced process. Essentially based on coniferous species at the onset, production has gradually become more diversified by the addition of products now derived from organically grown shrubs and wild plants. Some 125 organic essential oils derived from local and foreign flora are now available here. Learn all about traditional blacksmithing techniques at la Forge à Pique Assaut (Blacksmith's Forge Economuseum), in Saint-Laurent, Île d’Orléans. Watch craftsmen at work, admire chandeliers, weathervanes, sculptures, exclusive custom-made furniture, and wrought-iron gate specimens. The workshop at Richard Robitaille Fourrures (Fur Tailoring Economuseum) is all about fur garment tailoring and repair. Get a glimpse of witnesses to the passing of time such as sewing machines, hat forms, irons, weights, fashion catalogues, and discover present-day, unthought of uses for fur. At Atelier Paré (Wood Sculpture ECONOMUSEUM®), the traditional Quebec legends are illustrated through the medium of wood sculpture. You will discover the stories of witches, will-o’-the-wisps, devils, imps, werewolves and spirits through the works of earlier and present-day artists.
