Visit The Economuseums!
By exploring the network of Economuseums, you will meet craftspeople in their workshops, who will gladly demonstrate their traditional skills.
At La Mailloche (Glass Economuseum) in Place-Royale, glassblowers invite you to watch a beautifully choreographed ballet as they blow life into magnificent art objects using a few select tools, a sequence of fluid gestures and the heat of their ovens.
At l'Inox maîtres-brasseurs (Beer Economuseum), brewers take great pleasure in sharing Quebec’s brewing tradition, which dates back to the early 17th century, when the Intendant Talon opened the very first brewery in North America. Have fun comparing traditional and modern methods for brewing fine-quality beers. Once the visit is ended, select a beer, raise your glass and savour the product of this traditional craft!
At Les Dames de soie (Doll Economuseum), you can see a collection of handmade dolls crafted by a mother-daughter team. The dolls’ delicate clothes and smooth, hand-painted porcelain faces are sure to delight you. You can also visit an exhibit on toys (with a focus on dolls) from yesteryear.
At the Choco-musée Érico (Chocolate Economuseum), you will discover the history of chocolate, the tools used to make this tasty confection, chocolate-making techniques (including a tour of the kitchen) and more. This is the perfect place for chocolate lovers.
At the Musée de l'abeille (Honey Economuseum), come discover the fascinating history of the relationship between man and bees! An exhibition shows you how people from early times gathered honey and kept bees. Learn how beekeeping techniques developed through the ages. Try to spot the queen in glassed-enclosed hives. You can set out on a fascinating "Bee Safari" accompanied by a beekeeper. Once your visit has ended, you can sample mead produced onsite and treat yourself to sweets or pastries at the boutique.
The Atelier Paré (Legends Economuseum), is a workshop that creates wooden sculptures to tell traditional Québec legends. This original approach will allow you to discover the stories of witches, will-o'-the-wisps, devils, imps, werewolves and spirits, as represented in the works of artists past and present. Blocks of pine, basswood and butternut are transformed before your very eyes into attractive, functional works of art by talented artists. Take advantage of this rare opportunity to speak with local sculptors.
