Côte-de-Beaupré
history,
outdoors, mountains and valleys Stretching along the north shore of the
St. Lawrence River, east of Québec City, lies the Côte-de-Beaupré.
The area has a rich architectural heritage, plenty of facilities for
outdoor activities and natural sites with breathtaking views.
Avenue Royale, that
runs along the bottom edge of the hills, is one of the oldest roads in
North America and has many buildings and sites of historical and
architectural interest. They bear proud witness to the agricultural and
rural history of the area.
Sanctuaire de
Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré attracts thousands of pilgrims each year. They
come to ask "good Sainte Anne" to grant their wishes. The
Basilica is a remarkable feat of architecture, both inside and out. Its
size is impressive and so are its frescoes and magnificent stained glass
windows. The Mont-Sainte-Anne ski-centre is a vast park of mountains and
greenery dedicated to sports and outdoor activities. In winter, downhill
and cross-country skiing are popular. The warm days of summer are given
over to mountain biking, golf, camping, hiking and rollerblade
enthusiasts. Further east, several natural sites await visitors: the
Sept-Chutes, the Grand Canyon at Sainte-Anne waterfalls and the Cap
Tourmente National Wildlife Reserve.
