New France Celebrations

The New France Celebrations take place in August. During this important annual event, historical figures of New France (1608-1760) take over Old Québec bringing alive the intense and crucial period that saw the founding of Québec City, the first French-speaking city in North America. Native people, fur traders, missionaries, explorers, farmers, lords, tradesmen...not to mention renowned characters such as Samuel de Champlain, Governor Frontenac, Louis Jolliet, Marie de l’Incarnation, Talon the intendant, Les Filles du Roi (women of marriageable age who were sent to New France by the King) and others will stroll through the streets of Old Québec, reenacting events at historic sites for the pleasure of the visitors. In various sites, there will be animation by characters dressed up in period costumes. The population and visitors are also invited to dress up and join the festivities.
