  A majestic opening event
December 31, 2007
Place D’Youville
A festive, unique and family-oriented opening event will kick off the 400th anniversary celebrations. At midnight, the sky will light up with dazzling fireworks and visual effects, and the whole square will vibrate with sights and sounds. This unforgettable New Year’s Eve party, set in the magical décor of a Québec City winter, promises to usher in a brilliantly colourful year! Make sure to arrive earlier than midnight, because there will plenty to see!
 
JANUARY  
  Interactive tour
January 5–6, 2008
Old Québec
Along the fortifications, visitors will discover a spellbinding interactive pathway featuring approximately 100 costumed actors and extras, and striking special effects.
 
  Urbanopolis
January 16, 2008, to April 19, 2009
Musée de la civilisation
A look at the major concerns about the future that urban life is stirring up. Talks, performances, cinema, and round-table discussions will complement this exhibition.
 
  Red bull Crashed Ice
January 26, 2008
Old Québec
A mix of skiing, hockey, and boardercross, this extreme skating event takes place right in the heart of Old Québec. And when the competition’s over, Canadian hard rockers Three Days Grace will be warming up the crowd with a free outdoor concert.
 
FEBRUARY  
  Québec, a City and its Artists
February 14 to April 27, 2008
Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec
Discover the works of 22 artists from various disciplines who were born in Québec City or stayed here between the 17th century and 1970.
 
  The Carnival’s Great Night Parade, 400th special edition
February 9 and 16, 2008
Mr. Christie’s Québec Winter Carnival
A zany and original concept in complete synergy with the crowd, where the sublime meets the absurd in pure carnival tradition.
 
  Québec City Snow Pentathlon
February 21 to 24, 2008
Plains of Abraham and Old Québec
Four days of winter activities–bicycling, running, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and skating.

  Mahler’s symphony no. 8, symphony of a thousand
March 15, 2008
Colisée Pepsi
A monumental work featuring 1,000 instrumentalists and singers. A rare opportunity to hear this dazzling masterpiece.
 
  Snowboard Québec 400e
March 15, 2008
Québec Snowboard World Cup
Urban snowboarding event to be held in downtown Québec City in the evening.
